FAQ (Also known as please read first before asking questions) :)

Question: What do I need to download this?
Answer: To be able to download these, you will need a BitTorrent client. We recommend Deluge, a simple BitTorrent client that will do the job with no advertisements or hidden surprises.

Once you install the application, you're ready to download from the torrent. Download and open the .torrent file, add it to Deluge, and the application will do the rest.

Once your download is complete, you can view this release with VLC.

Question: Will you release these on DVDs?
Answer: Sorry, we have no plans to do this.

Question: Are you planning on subtitling Beast Wars Neo?
Answer: We have no plans at this time to subtitle Beast Wars Neo. It doesn’t mean that we won’t do it, but we’ve just spent the past year putting together this project for everyone, so we need a break. :)

Question: Was this series very difficult to translate?
Answer: Yes and no. If a non-native Japanese were to translate this series on their own, there would probably be something lost or misinterpreted in the translation. Thankfully for our team, we have a wonderful friend and teammate named Takae, who is a native born Japanese and fluent in both languages. She, like all of us, is a huge Transformer fan, and took a lot of time out of her busy schedule over the past year to script and translate the first draft of each episode. If there’s anyone you should be thanking for this series to have been translated, it’s her. :) On top of translating, there’s research that was needed to be done, since sometimes there’s references to old TV shows and movies in the series, and this needed to be explained. All of these instances have been recorded in the translator notes.

Question: Are you planning on translating all of the Japanese dub of Beast Wars and Beast Wars Metals since you have those two specials in the collection?
Answer: No. We did those two special episodes as an bonus for everyone, since they came on the same DVD as the Beast Wars II movie. We felt that doing this would give Western fans an idea on some of the changes to the dialogue that was done. We hope you enjoy them!

Question: Why are some of the character’s names different than certain Transformers fan and resource sites as well as from the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook?
Answer: There are many Transformers fan sites out there which are great resources, with many fans devoting much time to put the information out there to help others understand / fill in the gaps on many different Transformers series. With respect to everyone, fan sites are not official (and neither are we) on how the character’s names are written. There is also some disagreement with how the IDW Beast Wars Sourcebook was created; and how many fans didn’t agree with the way some of the character’s names were spelled and their bios’ were written, since most of reference material was based from a fan page. Additionally, the spelling of some character’s names varies depending on which Japanese media related material you’re looking at. With that in mind, we’ve spelled the characters names on how we as a group felt. With several names such as Tasmanian Kid versus Tasmania Kid, or Autocrusher versus Autocrasher, there’s several ways you can write them into English. Bottom line, it’s how one interprets it based on the katakana characters.

Question: I would like to customize the subtitles for myself; how do I do that?
Answer: There’s a site called MKVToolNix which hosts various tools to extract the subtitles with. Once to extract the files you can edit them with a subtitling program called Aegisub. We’ve also included the fonts we used in the package so that they appear the same in your customized authored version. Generally speaking, most fan groups like to burn or hard subtitle their files into the video to prevent others from using them. However, we don’t follow this same practice and leave ours as soft subtitles, allowing one to turn them on or off while watching.

Question: I’d like to use your subtitles and translate this show into my native language and publicly release this. Are you OK with me doing this?
Answer: Absolutely! We kindly ask that you contact us either by PM, or on our Facebook page before doing so, as well as providing us the credit in the subtitles with your release. The more that others can get to watch and enjoy this series in their native language, the better it is for the entire community. :)

Question: For some reason, it doesn’t look like VLC is using the fonts properly. How can I fix this?
Answer: You can either copy all the fonts provided in the Extras folder into your fonts folder within C:\Windows\Fonts or right click on each of them included in the package and install them. Unfortunately, since I don’t use either OSX or Linux, I cannot provide any advice on how to install these on those operating systems. However Google can help you with that :)

Question: Are you getting compensated somehow?
Answer: No. Just as we did Car Robots, Zone and Legends of the Microns, we do these projects for free and for fans to enjoy. This series in particular is considered one of the holy grail's among fans, and we’re excited to be able to finally share it with everyone. We hope everyone appreciates the hard work and hundreds of hours that went into creating this.

Question: I have something I want to ask that wasn’t covered here.
Answer: By all means, do ask, and we’ll do the best we can to answer.

[Release] Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation (ビーストウォーズメタルス コンボイ大変身)

Hey everyone,

We're back with another release which you won't find anywhere else. We're proud to present to you a DVD quality release of Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation.

For those of you who are not aware, when Beast Wars Metals was released in Japan, there was a theatrical special which used footage from the Beast Wars season 3 episode called Cutting Edge. This special was released on VHS, but not on DVD. Fortunately, Walruslaw managed to get his hands on it, and was kind enough to capture a copy of the VHS cassette for us to use.

While the audio of the release was free of any issues, the video quality was definitely not up to par. However, there was some luck that with the release of the Music Matrix DVD(courtesy of Rockman666) we were able to get the opening of the special in a DVD quality format. However, this didn't solve the issue of the rest of the episode. Thus, we began a project to splice the DVD video from the US releases, and transpose them over top of the VHS footage so that it would match 1:1 (or close to it anyway!)

One of the biggest issues however, was the ending credits, which required a complete reconstruction from scratch. Using both Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop, we managed to put together a version which is extremely comparable to a retail copy - if it were to ever exist. We also would like to thank Primal Sabbath for his assistance with identifying each of the clips shown during the ending sequence, as well as Micchan’s assistance with the Japanese credits, so that it was possible to re-create the ending credits in its entirety. And last but not least, we’d like to make a big thank you to our translator, Takae, who felt this release would not be complete without being subtitled in English for Western audiences.

What this release includes:

Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation (DVD Quality Version - MKV format)

  • Original Japanese language with 2 optional sets of English subtitlesThe 1st set is with the original Japanese faction names, honorifics, and translated command code for changing modes

Beast Wars Metals: Convoy's Great Transformation (VHS Quality Version - MP4 format)

  • This version contains no subtitles, as it has been included solely for reference to compare with our reconstructed version.

It's been an absolute pleasure working with DeceptichopBusters in bringing this project to life. Without his help the project would still be ongoing. At this point, I'll turn the text over to him below to explain the details of this release.

Hello, you can call me DeceptichopBusters.

I joined as a guest to help Karyuudo complete this wonderful project. For the past 6 months, we have been putting almost daily effort into delivering this Holiday surprise to the community. I know some will object that this isn't the series they wanted released next, and believe me, I sympathize... but the simple truth is that both of us independently started this project, then decided to collaborate around last July after we realized we could combine our resources (subtitle timing, a person who owns the actual discs, 2 translators working together) and get this project done much faster than any other show could be. I'd say 5-6ish months is a pretty swift record when it comes to how quickly an entire 52 episode show can be fansubbed, wouldn't you? Don't worry, I have a feeling this won't be the last Transformers related release you see from this group either.

However, there's more to it than that. The simple truth is, as I came to see the original Japanese release, I realized how criminally underrated this show is. More to the point, the original characterizations of just about everyone was much more consistent in the original Japanese script, which is important because this has a cast of Transformer characters that is much more interesting than what you typically see in a Japanese TF series, both earlier and later shows. They took a few pages from Beast Wars approach to development. Sight gags common in other Japanese TF shows are kept to a minimum, humor itself is character based rather than just outright wacky, many members of the cast go through at least some development and growth, and there are consistent themes and ideas that are discussed throughout the series (the violent nature of the Transformers, trust and comradery, ect.). Now you have the chance to see the show as it was MEANT to be seen.

First, let's discuss animation. There is much that was fixed in the Japanese version, which actually aired later than the US release since it wasn't being rushed to air early. Not all, but numerous animation errors we saw on US TV were fixed either in the JP TV airing, or on the DVD release, with episodes like 3, 21, 23, and even later ones like 50 getting a lot of attention. They touched up things here and there throughout the whole show, and while it is not by any means the best looking anime of 2003, the overall improvement is definitely noticeable. I hope you'll enjoy finally seeing it, it will be especially important for fans of the next topic.

Next, let's take a moment to talk about the dub. It certainly has left the show with an infamous reputation, and frankly, there were good reasons behind it. Most western fans only saw Transformers Armada, which though it had a solid dub cast (Ocean Studio with many Beast Wars vets, all of whom I love dearly), it was an experiment in a simultaneous West/East anime release that wasn't entirely successful. Cartoon Network pushed heavily to get the show ready by fall 2002. Animation was often either rushed or outright incomplete, and the scripts... I can only assume the dub staff was working under an immense time crunch, because they had no proper proofing, leading to numerous name mistakes, illogical changes, or outright omissions of important character themes. However, the dub for all its flaws, still has its merits... and there were many fans of it, so I have gone through painstaking efforts to edit and mix it with the Japanese video source. Karyuudo also jumped in to fix a syncing issue in Episode 1 where the audio from Armada didn't match the animation from the Japanese version since it was sped up in the Armada release. Why is this important? Well, you can now switch between the Japanese and English audio with the push of a button, and dub fans now get ALL the animation improvement that the Japanese version received, something many people have wanted for a LONG time. Furthermore, I have edited the audio so that it mixes in perfectly with the Japanese opening, endings, and eye-catches. Effectively, you're getting the dub as if this were on a high quality dual audio DVD. This took a LOT of work, and not every episode will sync up 100% frame for frame perfect, but if there even IS a margin of error in ANY episode, it will be extremely small due to the fact that the dub timing didn't cut out anything for the TV airing, save one clip in episode 52, and a sped up sequence in ep 1's opening, all episodes were able to sync as perfectly as possible. Even the US Armada ED theme is used for the dubbed next episode previews because... well, that song was pretty cool and I didn't want it to go to waste.

Finally, let me explain a bit about the second (and third) subtitle track. Japan used different names for the Autobots and Decepticons up until 2007 when they stopped producing their own shows. They call these factions the Cybertrons and Destrons, Optimus is Convoy, Cybertron is Seibertron (to avoid confusion with the faction) ect. Ect. I decided to do a second sub track that changed these names only, because the goal was to give the audience Legends of the Microns as if it had been localized with absolutely minimal changes. Almost all other characters in the original script use G1 names most viewers will know, just a somewhat different selection than what the dub used (Demolishor = Ironhide, Red Alert = Ratchet), so there wasn't really a big need to change much else. Convoy wasn't just indiscriminately changed to Optimus Prime either. I rotated between Prime, Optimus, ect. based on what was most character appropriate to say. We're not the first group to do this name swap, but as far as I know, we ARE the first group to offer 2 sub tracks with both. In addition, there is a third subtitle track with credits/lyrics for the dub only if you're just watching that. Hope you enjoy these additions!

Lastly, let me give my thanks and shout-outs to those who I want to get proper credit here.

Thanks to Karyuudo for everything he's already done for Car Robots and that amazing release, and for his help and dedication with this. Also for the trouble of getting all the credits done and timed properly for each episode, which I never could've done on my own! We split the responsibility between who translated what episodes, and without him, this release wouldn'tve gotten done as quickly as it was, if at all... and especially not with this much quality. Also thanks to Walruslaw for collecting all of our neat extras as well as Gyumaoh for providing the 2003 Year Book which is now a rare out of print book!

Thanks to TMI for actually providing the real life DVDs to the community to be ripped. He's an encoder I've worked with on other projects over the years, and I always knew he owned the discs, but this year he finally offered to upload them on ADC so they could properly get ripped.

Thanks to FortMax/BunnyHat for ripping the ISOs that TM then provided. I haven't had the chance to talk with him personally, but the entire purpose of getting those raws online was for this project. Of course, as he always does, FortMax gets them up and out to the public swiftly and easily, which I have no problem with. Thank him for the really good video quality this release got!

And also a thanks to TFW2005 forum member Kaijumaster for being one of the people to consistently keep me in this crazy fandom so I'd be inspired to someday do this project.

And finally, thanks for all the support you as the community have given us. This includes the truly kind people I've met in person, as well as online. Without such a passionate and dedicated fandom, this wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable to do as it is.

I hope you guys take some time and give Legends of the Microns another shot, even if Armada wasn't your favorite. Yes, even with the kids, you will be pleasantly surprised by just how much better the show can be in this release. Til next time!

End of year thoughts...

Hey everyone,

2016 has almost finished, and this year was many exciting "firsts" for our team.

To start things off, we completed Beast Wars II / Beast Wars Special DVDs - a highly anticipated release among the English speaking Transformers community which was previously unknown to the West on the story and characters involved.

Beast Wars Metals Convoy's Great Transformation - A previously VHS only release which we re-authored from scratch to a DVD quality format for fans on both sides of the ocean. Additionally, it wouldn't have been complete with our subtitles in English.

One OK Rock - With our collaboration between both native Japanese and English team members, we've managed to be the first group to accurately translate many interviews and songs for our fans via our YouTube channel.

And finally, Rurouni Kenshin The Takarazuka Musical, which was a first for us to tackle a full-length musical. This project challenged us the most this year, as we worked diligently so that our Rurouni Kenshin fans could understand this incredible presentation. It was also a first that we also came to the realization that not all fandom groups are created equal. And in order to respect the wishes of the Takarazuka fandom and their concerns for the actresses and the Hankyu company as a whole, we decided to pull the public release.

In the coming year, please look forward to more of our releases from One OK Rock to Transformers.

Whatever you may be celebrating this holiday season, we at Karyuudo Fansubs wish you the safest and happiest of holidays with your loved ones. And no matter what type of fans you are, thank you for always reaching out to us with your honesty and respect towards us. Without you guys, we wouldn't have the drive and energy to continue these projects that we put so much love into.

See you in 2017!

[Release] Transformers: Scramble City - The Mobilization

Hey everyone,

We're happy to announce the release of Transformers Scramble City - The Mobilization. While we're sure many of you have watched many mediocre translations based off of an old VHS release from many years back, we bring to you today, a new translation from scratch.

The release includes two versions of Scramble City:
  • A DVD source version from the Japanese release of Fight! Super Robot Lifeforms Transformers. This was included as a bonus on the last disc of the 2nd box set.
  • A VHS version which originally was only available through mail-order in Japan. This source comes to us from Walruslaw who has ripped this from the original VHS cassette and up-scaled the video to 720p. One difference that you'll notice with this release is that the transition scenes with the faction symbols are the same as the original cartoon as opposed to the DVD version where they redrew them. The color transfer on the VHS is slightly better than its DVD counterpart.
Both of these contain two sets of subtitles, one with the Japanese character / faction names; the other with the Western character faction names.

Extras

  • Transformers Song Universe (mp3 format)

Hey Karyuudo Fansubs fans,

Recently, it's been discovered that Nyaa torrents has decided to shut their doors due to the recent EU ruling. While we completely understand their position, this also means we don't have a home for our torrents now.

Currently, we are looking for a new home to share our releases.

In the meantime, there is a back-up of Nyaa's archives located here.

Unfortunately, it doesn't include our recent release of Scramble City: The Mobilization, however, you can watch that via our YouTube channel in the meantime.

If you have any suggestions on where we can host our files, please feel free to message us using the comments.

Once a new home is discovered, we'll update the rest of our links accordingly.

[Announcement] Beast Wars Neo with English Subtitles Coming in Late 2018

Coming in Late 2018, the final chapter of the Japanese Beast Wars saga, Beast Wars Neo, will be released by Karyuudo Fansubs with English Subtitles.

Q&A

Q:  Why will this take so long to complete?
A:  Like everyone else in the world, we have families, jobs and lives outside of subtitling.  As with our other releases, we take our time to ensure you're receiving the best and most accurate translation possible.

Q:  Don't you have a more accurate release date?
A:  Unfortunately not at this time.  We're projecting a late 2018 release to factor in life commitments since that usually pushes our time frame back.  Any questions on "when will this be done" will be politely ignored. :)

Q:  Why not release the episodes as you complete them?
A:  With many series, there are themes and terms that are covered over many episodes and sometimes disappear and pop up later on.  Sometimes we find ourselves going back to alter a translation to ensure the story makes sense and flows smoothly.  In the end it's better to complete all the episodes and feel 100% satisfied that we're translating the dialogue as it was intended.

Q:  Do you require any additional assistance in regards to grammar, timing scripts, etc?
A:  Thank you, but we're covered on all areas for this project.

Q:  Will you charge for this?
A:  No. We do this simply because we love Transformers, and want to see this long awaited series completed.

Bonus Q&A
Q:  "I guess you guys beat me to the punch! Congrats on finishing Beast Wars 2! I would like to help in ANY way to finish Beast Wars Neo if I can by contributing the first 10 subbed scripts that I have..."
A:  Since August of 2016, we've seen several comments come in such as this one above where individuals are offering to help complete Beast Wars Neo.  To this date, we haven't seen one person actually complete this series.  We could make several assumptions, that they got busy, bored, or were simply trying to get access to our resources in order to take credit for contributing to the release in some way.  Let's be honest here, if you can translate 10 episodes of a series accurately by yourself, then you can easily translate the other 25 episodes in no time without our help. :)

Beast Wars Neo Progress Update...

Hey Karyuudo Fans,

Many of you have been anticipating the release of Beast Wars Neo since we announced it earlier this year.  We wanted to give you an update since it's now getting closer to the end of 2018.

Unfortunately, we've had several set backs over the past few months, due to unforeseen circumstances, such as work, family commitments, and health (ie: our translator Taka-chan had pneumonia and was out of commission for some time). Given this, we'll ultimately have to push the release into 2019.  We don't have an exact date yet, but we will provide an update shortly before the release date.

At this point in time, we've completed 21 episodes out of 35, so we've still got a good number to go.  We realize that many of you were looking forward to having a release date before the end of 2018, however, given the current time it takes to complete a translation of each episode, we don't believe this will be possible.

We really appreciate everyone's understanding and support over the years for our projects.  Our team always aims to give the fans out there the best possible translation.  For the Transformers community, this is something we've all waited almost 20 years to see translated into English.  Our team is committed to ensuring you're delivered what we've promised.

While you're waiting for our release, you may want to pre-order that Big Convoy re-issue to support Takara-Tomy. Or possibly start picking up some other Beast Wars Neo toys on the second hand market before the prices may go up!

For now, here are some screen captures from each of the episodes we've complete thus far.

Thank you again!

Hi everyone,

As another year comes to a close, we look forward to 2019 and where our work as fansubbers will lead us next.

In the coming months we look forward to closing the final chapter on the Japanese Beast Wars series, Beast Wars Neo.  To date, we've completed 26 out of the 35 episodes.  So while we're slowly approaching the finish line, we still have some work to do.  As a small gift to the community to hold everyone over until it's completed, we're giving you a preview of Episode 14 titled "Ship's Log".  This episode provides highlights from the first 13 episodes of the series.  We hope you enjoy this small sample of what's to come.

Whether you're celebrating Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, or simply just taking time out to spend it with your families, the Karyuudo Fansubs team would like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season.

Best wishes for 2019.

Karyuudo
